Why Go Greek?

To "Go Greek", in this context, is to become a member of a Greek organization, such as a fraternity or a sorority. You may be surprised to find that only 2% of the population of the United States have gone Greek, yet over 85% of the top executives from Fortune 500 companies are Greek. Of the nation's 50 largest corporations, 43 of them are held by Greek men and women. All but eight U.S. Presidents were involved in fraternities since 1825 when the first social fraternity was founded. Being Greek is more than just wearing letters and having fun in college - it's a way of life. Philanthropy and community service is a large part of the Greek lifestyle, with 850,000 hours being donated by Greek individuals every year. The benefits of joining a fraternity or sorority last long after you graduate from college. The ideals you learn from brotherhood as well as the values of your fraternity are with you for the rest of your life!

Why Choose Triangle?

Triangle Fraternity has something that other fraternities do not - similar curriculum requirements. Only men in the fields of Engineering, Architecture, and the Sciences are eligible for membership in Triangle. The main benefit of having such qualifiers is that many of the brothers have had the same classes, and are knowledgeable in the same fields, so they can help other members with any questions they might have about homework or their classes. The UWM chapter hosts a Study Night in the EMS building once a week that is open to anyone who wants to study or do homework.

Once each year, Triangle chapters from all over the country send representatives to a Leadership and Training Weekend held in Indianapolis, IN. Here you can get to know your brothers from colleges in other states while learning valuable lessons and leadership techniques to take home to your chapter. Also during the summer, there is either the Triangle National Convention or the Herbert Scobie Leadership School

Steps to Brotherhood

Joining a fraternity is an awesome experience and some say that the process was one of the best times they had in college. There are three stages every person goes through on their way to becoming a brother. They are as follows:

OneProspective Stage: Prospectives are men who may be interested in joining, but need to learn more about the fraternity. This is the time when they go around and experience Greek culture and choose which organization is right for them. Hopefully they will make the right decision and choose Triangle. Then they are encouraged to meet and spend time with the brothers so they get to know the Triangle way of life. A few weeks into the semester, a prospective member will receive a formal bid if the active brothers vote that they would like him to be a part of Triangle. The bid is an invitation to become a new member of the fraternity.

New Member Stage: If the prospective member chooses to accept his bid, he goes through a ceremony called Installation where he pledges to become a brother. After this ceremony, he is now called a New Member, also known as a Pledge. The pledging process usually lasts the majority of the semester, and during this time the pledge will learn all about Triangle - both nationally and locally. This process is very beneficial for building brotherhood between the "pledge brothers" and between the pledges and the active and alumni bodies as well.

Initiation: At the end of the pledging process, if the pledge shows that he is worthy of brotherhood in Triangle by his words, actions, integrity and values, he will be initiated as a brother of Triangle. This brotherhood is the fraternal bond that lasts for the rest of your life and connects you to thousands of other Triangle brothers throughout the world.
